This heart pop up card starts with a few simple folds and it’s the perfect DIY card for that special occasion!
Materials needed to make a heart pop up card….
All you’ll need to make this special heart card is paper, either card stock or copy weight paper, scissors, an glue.
Choose to use colored paper like these Astrobright colors or use markers, crayons, or colored pencils to add details and color!
Creating the three dimensional pop up heart….
Use the circle template above. ( You can get it below, at the bottom of the post.) Add any color before cutting the circle out.
Fold the circle in an accordion fashion, back and forth, back and forth. Use the black lines along the edge of the circle as a guide for folding.
Fold the three dimensional heart….
Holding the accordion folded circle tightly fold it directly in half and add a crease.
Open the fold and use a glue stick to apply glue to only the shortest layers of paper. This is what allows the heart shape to unfold! If needed place the heart under a book or something heavy for a minute until dry.
Cutting the card itself…
This three dimensional heart template is sized perfectly to fit inside a card made from half a piece of standard 8.5 x 11 paper cut in half. Cut into two 5.5 x 8.5 pieces. Fold each piece in half to create two cards.
Add the heart to the pop up card….
Leave the heart folded on half and apply glue to the shortest layers only on each side of the paper. Sandwich the heart so that the center of the heart is in the fold of the card. Fold and let the glue dry.
Add embellishments to your heart pop up card….
When the glue is dry open your pop up card gently and see the heart unfold.
Take his time to add any embellishments, writing, or drawing to the inside or outside of the card.
