Being grateful is a habit.  Use these free printable gratitude journal prompts as a simple way to get your kiddo in the habit of remembering all the good that’s mixed in everyday!

There is always something to be grateful for….

Chances are as you read this you’ve got your smart phone in your hand or maybe you’re relaxing with your coffee before everyone is awake.  Either way if you’re reading this you’ve got technology, internet, and your kids likely enjoy those same privileges.  Right there, lucky.

It can be really easy to get bogged down in the “stuff” of life that’s not going quite right.  I say this as a mostly well adjusted middle aged adult.  Logically, yes, much to be grateful for everyday.  So much.  (In fact I made these pretty quotes about being grateful for each day as a reminder to myself!)

What are you grateful for today….

I love to ask my kids what was the best part of their day.  Sometimes, on a rough day, they’ll say “Nothing.”

“What???”

“Nothing….”

As annoying as it hears to those words out my more than lucky kids, I do totally get it.  It’s easy to let the not so awesome parts of our days drag us down!

Why keep a gratitude journal…

Arianna Huffington’s book Thrive goes deep into the ways that making an effort to express gratitude can improve one’s life.  She writes, “Gratitude works its magic by serving as an antidote to negative emotions. It’s like white blood cells for the soul, protecting us from cynicism, entitlement, anger, and resignation.”

We need gratitude because it makes our life better but we have to learn how to cultivate it.  Living a life full of positivity and gratefulness is a learned skill.

Writing down things for which we’re grateful is a proven way to lower stress.  Keeping a gratitude journal is an easy way to gain a little perspective on the good things that happen during the day, no matter how small.  And maybe, writing down what you’re grateful for can help you know how to grab more of the good stuff in life.

The beautiful thing about this gratitude journal idea is it’s simplicity.  A gratitude journal takes minutes a day and no supplies!

Use my free printable gratitude journal prompts or use a pretty blank notebook.  There are many gratitude journals on the market. My daughter and I each have one of these.  Every page is pretty similar but it feels special because it’s such a pretty book. It gets our day started in a positive way. and that’s def a positive!

This gratitude journal isn’t meant specifically for kids but it’s bright colors are super appealing to the younger crowd.  And, I love that it also includes spaces for drawing.

Most purchased gratitude journals seem to be marketed purely towards girls.  While boys can surely benefit from the idea of expressing written gratitude it may be a harder sell to do so in a journal decorated with butterflies and flowers. My printable gratitude journal prompts were designed to be totally gender neutral!  Let your kiddos personalize them with colors and their own illustrations!
