New Year’s Eve Party Hats-Easy New Year’s crafts for kids

These easy printables are the perfect New Year’s craft for kids.  Make fun New Year’s Eve party hats and crowns that your kiddos can decorate and then enjoy wearing!

Make it simple…

In a season filled with parties and excitement I find that my kids and I find the most joy in the little stuff.  Easy moments together mean less stress, more fun, and good times.

These New Year’s crafts for kids start with easy printable templates for New Year’s Eve party hats.  Print on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.  Printing on cardstock will give you a bit of a sturdier hat.  If you don’t have card stock you can totally get away with standard, copy weight paper.

New Year’s party hats for kids…

The first step is to add some color. This should be done while the printable templates are flat.  We used markers because they’re quick, super vibrant, and require little drying time.  Any kid friendly medium will do.  Tempera paints or colored pencils would also be fun.  And glitter glue….that would be a definite yes!

When  your kiddos are satisfied with the color cut the templates out.  The hat will need a slit cut into it one the line shown above.  An adult can do this with an X-acto blade or use a pair of scissors.  The tab on the other side will slide into this opening to secure the hat into a cone shape.  Use a bit of tape to secure.

The crown shape will need cut out as well. The tabs on the side will not be long enough to go around your child’s head.  Cut an additional strip of paper to extend the crown to fit your child’s head.  We just did a quick measure and cut session at our house!

Chinese New Year Wishes: Chinese Spring and Lantern Festival Celebration by Jillian Lin

Record what you know about the Chinese New Year…

I love using printables like the one below to help my students record what they know.   Some answers are factual and may require a bit of research into the traditions of the Chinese New Year.  A book or two from the book list above should provide plenty of knowledge and inspiration!

Just as many of the answers require only your student’s opinions. Asking student’s to consider their own opinions and preferences regarding new ideas is a way to get them to slow down and be more thoughtful about what they’re seeing!

Color your own Chinese dragon…

The dragon is a popular symbol in the Chinese New Year celebration.  Dragons are believed to bring good luck to people. They also symbolize wisdom, power, and wealth.

Dragon dances can often be seen as part of the celebration of the Chinese New Year.  How the dragon is constructed and the type of dance done can vary according to geography and local culture.

The dragon below is inspired by the Chinese dragons of the Chinese New Year.  You can find it in PDF form for free in my Resource Library.
