Ever feel a little weird around the edges? Or maybe you’ve come to terms with your quirky self as a grown up but that can be tough to do when you’re a kid. Especially these days when the compare/contrast game is at our fingertips all the time. Check out these nine pretty printable quotes about being different to encourage your little people (okay, and you too) to celebrate the weird little things that make them them!
Weird is not an insult…
One of my favorite compliments to give my own kids is “You’re just the right amount of weird.”
Weird is what makes a person funny, original, and true to themselves. Who wouldn’t want that?
I want to raise kids that think for themselves and proud of the parts that make them different.
Being different doesn’t always feel good…
I’ve got a lot of weird going for me.
I am a hardcore introvert. I’m an artist. We’re a homeschool family. I measure almost six feet tall. None of these things makes me your average bear and that’s okay. But I didn’t always feel that way.
I think middle aged (which is where I am unless I live to be really, exceptionally old) brings with it a little bit of self acceptance which I’d like to think keeps increasing with age and wisdom.
I used to wish I didn’t notice so much. Life would be simpler, for sure. But I do notice (people, feelings, inconsistencies, nuances, you name it) and I like to think it makes me a more empathetic person.
I have one million ideas all the time. Seems like a postive, right? Sometimes it is but I struggle to quiet my brain. (That’s why I blog!) It goes one one hundred miles an hour and then I fall asleep, no in between. It’s exhausting. I’m working on it.
My sense of humor errs on the dark side.
If I never entered another crowded room again I would be so, so thankful.
It’s okay. That’s me.
I want to keep growing, changing, and learning about myself and the world around me, of course, but I’ll still be me, imperfections and all.
Weird = Real
Some of my most favorite people in life are kinda’ weird and not always all that likable upon first meeting. They’re awkward and quirky and not at all smooth. But they are themselves through and through.
Now the idea living a life built on your own uniqueness is not just about me but about raising my four kids to embrace all their quirks and eccentricities. Viewing those “different” parts of your personality as strengths to be built upon instead of hurdles to overcome is a game changer.
I don’t want them to have a midlife epiphany to embrace their weirdness- let’s start today!
