We’ve been homeschoolers for almost two years. We’re no longer trying this lifestyle on for size. It’s a thing at our house.
Although we are only on our second year of homeschooling we are on our third homeschool writing curriculum. I’m not sure that we’ve found the perfect fit even yet. History programs; we’ve seen two. You get the idea….what we do is fluid. (That’s fancy talk for I change my mind. A lot.)
As a homeschool mom I get the chance to know my kids pretty well and I love being able to present them with opportunities to learn that really mesh with their passions. Seeing their appreciation and enthusiasm about their educational choices is so affirming. Ha, ha, ha.
We’ve made and decorated real ginger bread cookies in past years. We’ve tried faux gingerbread art clay recipes. The boxed gingerbread house has even made an appearance at our house a time or two. But this year we decided to try something new. Gingerbread ornaments made with cork!

My kiddos and I started making ornaments (or sun catchers depending on the time of the year.) We quickly realized there was plenty of fun ways to manipulate these little boogers and turn them into something unrecognizable.
So, I have to be honest here. I have seen ornament made out of peppermint candy here and there on the world wide web. Easy. Simple. Not really, as it turns out. Because, cracking. We had a lot of cracking, some serious stickiness, and maybe a few tears. But, trial and error led us to some really pretty pieces that my kids are excited to give as gifts this Christmas. So to save you all some peppermints and tears I will share our tricks!
