Growth mindset is a buzzword in parenting and education circles these days, and with good reason. Use this huge collection of free growth mindset resources to see what all of the buzz is about and how it can benefit your kids- and you!
What is this growth mindset thing…
A growth mindset states that just because you can’t do something or don’t know something today doesn’t mean you never will. Your brain is capable of learning about anything with enough practice and work.
That’s exciting right? Work hard and be who you want to be! That is totally a message I want my kids to soak in, and me too while we’re at it!
Why does it matter to me….
Doesn’t everyone already know this? Ummm, no.
It can feel as if who we are is static. We’re either a smart kid, or not. We’re a successful entrepreneur or we’re not. We are a confident person, or not. This is just not true. Our brains were meant to grow, change, and even, gulp, fail.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of the growth mindset is that it accommodates for failure in re-frames it as part of the learning process. Failing isn’t really failing, it’s learning. Viewing failure as a normal part of the learning process makes it a little less scary, a little less intimidating.
Try stuff, new stuff. Work hard at it, learn about it, and adjust when things go wrong. Genius, right?
