Balloon printing flowers are a fascinating and interactive way to create unique floral patterns that will leave children in awe of their creations!
Supplies for balloon printing flowers….
- paint, tempera or acrylic
- balloons
- marbles
- small rubber bands
- paper
- black marker (optional)
Prepare your balloon for printing…
What makes this balloon printing process so unique is the way the ballon is prepared. It makes a unique shape that creates the prettiest little floral prints.
Pop a marble, a round stone, or even a pom pom inside the balloon. Use a rubber band to hold the marble in place. Turn the balloon inside out so the marble and rubber band are inside the balloon.
Blow the balloon up and tie securely making it as big or little as you choose or have room for printing on your paper.
The marble and rubber band inside the balloon create a “center” and gathers that will show up in each print and give the impression of a flower!
Balloon printing flowers….
Prepare a palette of paint for printmaking. Choose as many or as few colors as your little artist chooses. Spread a small amount of paint on a paper plate, allowing plenty of room to dip the balloon, marble side down, into.
Have a spare scrap paper ready to blot off excess paint before printing. Less paint will create a more detailed flower print in this case!
Making more balloon prints…
It’s easy to make lots of prints and in all different colors. There’s no reason to wash the prior color off before choosing a new one. Just dab your balloon on your scrap paper a few times and it’s ready to start fresh!
Add more details to your balloon prints….
These flower prints are gorgeous and unique just as they are. They are also a great invitation for adding more details. Use leftover paint from you palette to paint stems and leaves or a permanent marker to doodle on top of the balloon flower prints.
