Grab your paint and follow along with these step by step easy watercolor flowers for kids to paint.
Supplies for painting these easy watercolor flowers….
- watercolor paints- either the classic dry watercolor paints or the liquid version
- soft paintbrush
- water
- paper- watercolor paper is best, but you can use any heavier paper
Start painting your watercolor flower….
These little watercolor flowers are so easy and fun to paint. Follow along with these simple steps that leave plenty of room for your young artists to put their own creative spin and make these flowers their own.
Start by loading your paintbrush with plenty of pigment. Paint five (or more) dots of color in a circle pattern. Each dot will become a petal so you can paint as many or as few as you like!
Next steps….
Rinse your brush and load it with plenty of clean water. Touch the brush to the dot of color and pull the color out in whatever shape you choose for the petal. Add more water and do the same for the other side of that same petal. Fill in any interior space with more water.
Continue around the watercolor flower using the same process to turn each dot into a flower petal.
Add a center to your easy watercolor flowers….
Add a dot of an additional color the center of your watercolor flower to connect all of the petals.
If this is done while the petals are wet the colors will bleed into one another. I love this loose, blended look. If you or your students prefer more control over the colors mixing wait until the watercolor flower petals have dried to add the center.
Paint one watercolor flower at a time working your way around the paper.
Adding watercolor leaves….
When the watercolor flowers have dried it’s time to consider adding some watercolor leaves to complete the composition.
Use the exact same process by starting with a dot of the color you choose for the leaf and then pulling that color into a leaf shape with clean water.
