Materials to make your own wall Christmas tree mural…

The mess free, temporary nature of this wall Christmas tree is thanks to painter’s tape! We used two colors, brown and green, but this Christmas tree mural could be fun in any color!

I’ve used this brand of painter’s tape on many projects and it always comes off without a hitch. And, it comes in a rainbow of colors!

This wall Christmas tree mural is made from painter's tape. It's fun for kids to put up and easy to take down!

Creating a Christmas tree mural with tape….

Start by stretching a piece or two of tape from the bottom of the tree to where you imagine the top being. Painter’s tape tears easily, no scissors needed. The tree will be wider at the bottom and skinnier at the top. This may require a few pieces of tape!

Next, add major horizontal branches. These will be longer toward the bottom and shorter toward the top creating that triangular Christmas tree shape.

Adding branches to your wall Christmas tree….

Every pine tree branch should have at least one smaller branch making a “Y” shape off of the main branch. Vary the size and placement for the most natural look.

Just like the trunk, branches will be thicker near the start and thinner near the tips. Let your kiddos many as many branches as they want!

Creating pine needles with painter’s tape…

We used green one inch painter’s tape to create pine “needles.” Take a look at a real pine branch or some online photos. Notice how the pine needles on a given branch generally run parallel to each other. Encourage kids to tear tape into strips of tape and create small groups of pine needles.

Decorate your wall Christmas tree mural….

Hang real ornaments on the branches of your tape Christmas tree using tacks. Or attach paper ornaments using sticky tack for a completely damage free Christmas tree for your wall!
