Mindfulness is being present, noticing what’s happening around you without judging whether it’s good or bad.  It’s soaking up what’s happening right now without moving on to what comes next.  Use these quotes about mindfulness to remind yourself to take a deep breath and relax.

Mindfulness is the opposite of anxiety….

This thing called anxiety has a role in my life that I didn’t recognize for a long time.  It didn’t have a name but it’s always been there making things  a little harder than they really need to be.

Life right now is busy.  I’m a homeschool mom to four and run this blog in my “spare time.”  My kids are super involved in different activities.  There just isn’t a lot of downtime in this season and there is plenty of  decision making and uncertainty to inspire a little worry session.

The Power of Now…

Ages ago someone recommended the book the The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle.  I won’t lie.  I struggled to get through this book because it was a little out there for me.  It was deep and heavy.  But I read it seven years ago and I still remember this  takeaway.  If you weren’t thinking about the past or the future would you still be worried, scared, anxious, etc?

Stay in this moment, this very second, right now. That’s pretty powerful stuff to my brain.

Right now…..

Am I okay right now?  Are my people okay right now?  Then the basics are covered.

Rarely does my brain stop there but I’m working on it.  How lovely it would be to turn that worry into a prayer and be done with it, on with my day.

Life goals.

Being mindful & present in the moment can be tricky when life gets crazy. Use these quotes about mindfulness to remind yourself to take a breath and relax.

I’m not awesome at this “self care” thing but I am really good at getting things done.  Until I’m not and I maybe have trouble sleeping, and taking deep breaths, oh, and eating.  Basics, you know?

That is not okay.

How to be mindful when when there are 7,000 things happening….

I’m not a mental health professional and I sure don’t have all the answers, not even for myself.  For me being able to be mindful and enjoy the moments means admitting to myself I cannot do it all.

Being mindful means no more beginning my day with a to do list so long two of me couldn’t get it done.  I don’t want to work all day and still feel unaccomplished at the end of the day.

Being mindful of my own mental state means telling my kids and people no more often.  As in “No, I cannot play Catan with you right now or I may lose my everloving mind.” (And not guiltily replay the meme in my head about enjoying every single nano second of your kid’s youth because soon they’ll be grown and leave home forever.)   I knooooow.

It means saying yes to grown up events and conversations with my husband and friends even when I’m tired.

Baby steps.

Relax and read a book…

I used to read multiple books a week.  These days I read snippets.  Facebook,  IG, and articles fill the space that used to be occupied by entire books.  The way I read is totally representative of my mental state- scattered.

A few months ago my sister in law (who blogs at The Restoring House and does beautiful home renovations) recommended  the book Present Over Perfect by Shawna Niequest.  If the book the Power of Now was a struggle to get through this book was a dream.  I couldn’t put it down because I related to the author so, so much.

There is no out there philosophy to wade through.  This book is hard core salve for the overwhelmed mom’s heart and with a Christian perspective.  Present Over Perfect isn’t necessarily about mindfulness but it is about letting go of unrealistic expectations so you can enjoy the life in front of you.

I own this one and will no doubt work my way through it again.  It’s that good.
