Potato Prints- An Intro to the Art of Printmaking

Printmaking is hands down my favorite art activity.  Little kids, big kids, professionals, and non artists can all find something they enjoy in the super varied world of printmaking.  It is the least intimidating of art media (at least to me) because no drawing skill is required! It can be as simple as these potato prints; carve, paint, and print!

Bead Crafts with Pony Beads

Pony beads are cheap an can be found about anywhere.  Couple that with their bright colors and perfect for little finger size and you’ve got a winning art material!  Bead crafts here we come! 

My kiddos and I started making ornaments (or sun catchers depending on the time of the year.)  We quickly realized there was plenty of fun ways to manipulate these little boogers and turn them into something unrecognizable.

Color Mixing on Coffee Filters

Primary colors are one of the first art concepts I like to introduce young kids to in art.  First, because they are a basic building block for understanding how to make all kinds of things.  And second, because mixing colors is kind of magical.   This color mixing coffee filter craft is a fun introduction to what happens when those primary colors mix together!
